Our coral reef restoration project takes an innovative approach to solving the problem of habitat destruction: integrating art and science. There is documented evidence of success in coral reef restoration using Constructed Coral Reefs (CCR). We engaged the artist Gustav Sculptor to fabricate and install a constructed coral reef (CCR) design incorporating this scientific research in the structural details. The dynamic living sculpture will act as a host to coral larvae and foster the growth of new coral colonies. This integration of art and science invites community interest and interaction with cultural impacts as it contributes to the eventual environmental and economic health of the Hawaiian Island region. With the expertise of a filmmaking team we will document the whole creation and installation process. Careful documentation serves as material for educational forums and web-based communication that will enable others to replicate this restoration project globally.
