Hemp to Rescue Beaches and Coral Reefs

Hemp, Our Hero

In the Plant Kingdom, hemp is the most versatile superhero. Its innumerable powers even include rescuing polluted beaches and restoring degraded coral reefs. We need only observe any beach and coral reef today to see that these vital ecosystems are in serious danger: poisonous microplastics litter most every high tide line around the world, and harmful bacteria and chemicals in the sewage waste stream eat away at the coral reef heads, leaving them vulnerable to disease and death. With no sustainable solutions in sight for Lanikai and its fellow bionetworks, hemp is called upon to serve and protect.

Not to be outdone, hemp fibers can also absorb harmful chemicals like diuron and atrazine discharged into the ocean from raw sewage, improving the health of coral reef systems.

Goethe said that “the solution to every problem is another problem.” But after contemplating hemp’s diverse powers, we at Global Mana think “the solution to every problem can be another solution.”
